How can each of us make this a day within which we have done something to make our Lord happy with our part of His creation? Love! Can it really be that simple? Yes! I believe that it is so simple, but not simplistically so. In December of 2012 I went on line to receive my ordination by the ULC, Universal Life Church, of Modesto, California. My son, Michael, did this a few years ago to be legally able to officiate at his sister Alexandria's marriage. I looked at their website and mission statement and decided to do the same. My reasoning is that the past year or so I have been doing a fair amount of chaplaincy work at our local hospitals and felt it would be good to have a Rev in my name. I thought quite a bit about this step. I did want the legal status for ministerial flexibility but did not in any way to dismiss the honor and respect I have for many "professional" clergy with whom I am acquainted.
I pray that none of them will take offense and that what ministering I am led to will be a blessing to the body of Christ.
Shortly after receiving my ordination I was asked to minister to a "memory center" senior living facility in Medford. I am in the process of tweaking a worship service which will be a blessing to them and so far am quite encouraged. They seem to be very engaged and happy at my efforts, with the Grace of Christ. One day at a time! Pax Christi! RV
